Effective Listings
1 (Q) What Makes A Listing Stand Out?

  • Include a good clear picture of your item. The more images, the better as Buyers want to buy a product they can see from all angles and know the Seller is serious about the item quality.

  • List at “No Reserve” (NR) with a very low starting bid amount. Highlight “No Reserve” in your title to catch buyers’ attention and start the bidding. NR items encourage Buyers to bid and land a good buy.

  • Describe the item accurately and concisely. Don’t be too wordy but be sure to list all the selling points.

  • Extol the benefits of your product by telling the Buyer how your item helps them by saving time, money, stimulating curiosity, entertain the kids, etc.

  • Communicate with Buyers in your "About Me" page. Let Buyers know your experience and any expertise you have with the goods.

  • State your policies, terms and conditions on selling. Buyers trust Sellers that are clear on how they conduct business. List the condition on the good, how many you have to offer, shipping times and prices, and return policy.

  • List in multiple categories. For example, listing your old coin will get more attention in the “Collectable” and “Coin” categories.

  • Accept multiple payment methods. Buyers vary in their payment preferences so by accepting PayPal for credit cards, checks, money orders, and wire transfers, Sellers can appeal to a broader range of Buyers.

  • Let the Buyer know the weight of the item and calculate the domestic and international postage. Check postage rates online.
1 (Q) How Do I Take Good Pictures?
(A) Pictures sell the item so make sure your item is cleaned up and looking its best. Show ALL the parts, cables, holders - everything that is included. Take pictures from several angles – back front, sides, top & bottom if you think it will help the Buyer. The more buyers can see, the more likely they’ll buy your product and not your competitor’s. To showcase your item, try the following tips:

Put the item against a plain background such as a white wall or sheet. Avoid underexposing your photos, however, when shooting against a white background or in bright light. Use the over/under expose button on your camera to adjust the exposure. Increase the exposure by +1 to let more light into the camera so the background becomes pure white.

  • Make sure you have good lighting by shooting outdoors or with a strong light. Don’t use a direct flash as it will wash out colours and details.

  • Cleanup the background so that there are no distracting objects. Fill the frame with the item so Buyers can see details. Focus your camera at close range objects by using the macro setting on your camera. Crop your photos so only the item is featured.

  • Use a tripod to avoid blurred pictures. Don’t always rely on the auto focus on your digital camera.

  • Save your pictures as JPEG files and increase the compression so they download more quickly.
